Installing Oracle Audit Vault Server

Installation of Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall 12.2.0.0.0 for Linux x86-64 comprises of installing Audit Vault first and then Database Firewall. Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall come in two different installation Medias. This document deals with the installation of Audit Vault Server only.

Oracle Audit Vault provides a secure and scalable solution for consolidating audit data generated by Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2 and Sybase ASE. Built-in reporting and alerting help enterprises more easily comply with both regulatory and internal reporting requirements. Oracle Audit Vault automates the audit consolidation process, turning audit data into an important security and compliance resource.

System Requirements: 

Memory Requirements
Each x86 64-bit server must have at least 4 GB of RAM, however, Oracle recommends 8 GB of RAM for production environments.

Each x86 64-bit server must have a single hard drive with a minimum of:

  • 220 GB disk space for the Audit Vault Server
  • 150 GB disk space for the Database Firewall

Network Interface Cards
Oracle recommends the following number of network interface cards (NICs) for each x86 64-bit server on which you install the following components:

  • 1 NIC for the Audit Vault Server
  • At least 1 NIC for a Database Firewall operating as a proxy
  • At least 2 NICs for a Database Firewall in DAM Mode (monitoring only)
  • At least 3 NICs for a Database Firewall in DPE Mode (monitoring and blocking. If you install the Database Firewall with fewer than 3 NICs, then you must add more NICs to make the Database Firewall DPE mode possible.

Installation:

Memory minimum: 4GB

Hard Disk minimum: 200GB

Select “install” and press “<Enter>” to continue.

4.Enter Installation Passphrase

Enter a strong passphrase. This passphrase will be used later to change other system passwords. It is recommended to note the password securely for future reference.

Passphrase: Oraclebased_123

NOTE: The passphrase should be eight characters or more and contains an uppercase, lowercase, digit, and punctuation. If this policy is violated then, the following message will be displayed.

5. Confirm Installation Passphrase

Re-enter the installation passphrase for confirmation.

Press “<Enter>” key to go to next screen.Oracle Audit Vault Installation Successful.

6. Oracle Audit Vault Installation Successful.

Congratulations if you get a screen like below screenshot.  Installation of Oracle Audit Vault is now completed successfully. Press “<Enter>” button to go to next screen

7. Select Management Interface

  • Select one of the available interfaces as Management Interface. This will be used to connect to the audit vault server through terminals like ssh, putty e.t.c. for maintenance operations.
  • Press”<Enter>” key to make the selection and go to next screen.

8. Select Available Ethernet device. Make a selection as shown in below screenshot. Press “<Enter>” key to go to next screen.

9. Specify IP address

  • Enter IP address, subnet mask and gateway for the management interface.
  • Press “<Enter>” key to complete the installation and reboot the server.

10. After Audit Vault successfully installation following window will be displayed.

Post Installation:

  1. Browse management IP on Browser.  Login using installation password.

2. User Configuration

  • Enter username and password for the users to be configured.
  • User Setup: Users AVADMIN and AVAUDITOR are created in Oracle database.
  • Users “root” and “support” are created in the operating system. While connecting to the audit vault server using terminals like ssh and putty, the first login as support user then switches to other users. User “oracle” is implicitly created by the operating system.

You can also Setup NTP and DNS in a single configuration.

3. Save the configuration. After saving you should logout and redirect to the login page of You can login using AVADMIN username.

4. Change Hostname.

Go to SettingsàNetwork, You can change your host name from here.

5. Allow SSH Access

Go to Settings->Services; Click the radio button SSH Access to All as shown below, then Save the configuration.

  • Login as support user first.
  • Then switch to root user from support
  • After logging in as root, you have to switch to “oracle” user (e.g.: su – oracle)

6. Setting the Audit Vault Server Time (Strongly Recommended)

  1. Go to Settings->Manage
  2. Select either Set Manually or Use NTP.
  • Click ok “Test Server” button.
  1. If you see Server Time then click on “Apply Server” and then Save the settings.
  2. If you see “Failed to query ntp server.” Message then fixes the issue first.

7. Setting the Audit Vault Server DNS Servers (Recommended)

  1. Go to Settings->Service
  2. Select DNS Server 1 IP Address radio button then enter
  • Click ok “Test Server” button.
  1. If you see Server Time then click on “Apply Server” and then Save the settings.
  2. If you see “Failed to query ntp server.” Message then fixes the issue first.
